Tips to Build Endurance for Speedy Throw in Baseball

Getting more velocity on your throws in baseball is a goal of anyone who has ever pitched.Few pitchers have the natural gifts to consistently hit 100 mph or more on the radar gun.Those who can't reach those speeds want more velocity.In order to get more speed when you throw a baseball, you need to exercise your legs, your arms and have excellent technique.
Building Endurance
It's one thing to throw hard in the first and second inning.It's quite another to maintain your velocity late in the game.In order to throw hard in the 7th, 8th or 9th inning, you need to build endurance through running.Pitchers that maintain strong running programs have the ability to throw as hard late in the game as they did when they first came out to the mound.According to pitching instructor Steven Ellis, the best running programs involve short sprints, medium sprints, long sprints and distance running.Pitchers can run on an every-day basis during the offseason and continue on non-pitching days during the season.
Long Toss
This is simple program that help all players --- including pitchers --- throw harder and do it for longer periods of time.Start with playing catch with your teammate from a distance of about 60 feet.As you warm up, both you and your partner should continue to back up and keep throwing as long as you can do it accurately.A distance of between 120 and 150 feet is optimal, and you should be able to keep it up for about 10 minutes.This will build strength in the shoulder, chest, core muscles, glutes and legs.
Strength Training
Pitching is very difficult on the shoulder muscles, particularly the rotator cuff.The rotator cuff is a series of four small muscles that allow the shoulder to move the way it does.In order to build velocity and maintain arm health, weight training exercises are quite useful.Some of the best strength-building exercises for pitchers include push-ups, the bench press, rowing exercises, medicine ball throws, front squats and dead lifts.
Technique
Probably the most important factor in developing and maintaining velocity is the technique you use on the pitching mound.More than any one other factor, balance will help a pitcher throw consistently hard.You must maintain your balance during the windup, the delivery and the follow through.Your arm angle should be between straight overhead and three-quarters when you deliver the ball.You must snap your wrist as you let go of the ball.You also must have speed with your arm as you prepare to release the ball.Building proper technique takes hours of practice and you should also videotape your sessions and make sure an accomplished pitching coach gets to see that video in order to help you make corrections.
